Representative Director
Genki Sagawa

What were the reasons for deciding to accept them?

When I was working as a site supervisor for another company, I saw Chinese workers on site and felt that working with foreigners represented the future of the construction industry. Around the time I returned to my family business, Kyoshin Corporation, Technical Intern Training program began, so I went on inspection trips to Vietnam and Myanmar to prepare to start accepting interns at our company as well.

What were the benefits of accepting it?

Communicating with foreigners who have just arrived in Japan can be challenging. However, for our employees, the trial and error involved in teaching work to foreigners with limited Japanese language skills is a very valuable experience. Furthermore, being exposed to their drive and ambition is also inspiring.

What measures or precautions do you take after accepting them?

I arrange individual meetings with Specified Skilled Worker and Technical Intern Trainee. I share my vision for their future careers with them, and then I listen to what they are thinking about going forward. This is when they finally start to tell me their true feelings, such as "I'm actually thinking about returning to my home country" or "There are other things I want to do," so these individual meetings are an important opportunity for us to reconcile our opinions.

Please send a message to companies planning to implement this system.

While we must explore ways to employ Japanese workers, I believe that the skills of foreign workers will become increasingly necessary in the future. The construction industry, in particular, cannot function without skilled craftsmen, making human resource development an eternal challenge. Among these, Scaffolding are responsible for erecting scaffolding for other workers, playing a vital role in ensuring safety throughout the entire industry. We must be committed to securing the necessary talent.

QUYET transitioned from Technical Intern Trainee to a Specified Skilled Worker Scaffolding Specified Skilled Worker (i)) in September 2023. Having worked as a scaffolder in Vietnam, he was surprised by the safety standards of the Japanese construction industry. "In Japan, workers have a high level of safety awareness, and I can work with peace of mind." He says he is very grateful for the support he receives from his seniors and colleagues at work in both his work and personal life. He has a very good impression of the Japanese people, and he was impressed that his wallet was returned to the police station both times he lost it.

I truly admire their daily efforts.

I'm in my third year at the company, and I'm currently in charge of transporting foreign workers to and from the worksite. Ms. QUYET learned Japanese quickly and has been with us for a long time, so she understands the workflow on site. She responds immediately to the foreman's instructions with a simple "Understood," which is a great help. I truly admire the daily efforts of these foreign workers, such as studying Japanese while taking on a new job in a foreign country. It's that determination that allows them to learn the job quickly and get along well with those around them. I hope more courageous people like them will join us.
