President and Representative Director
Taketo Kanou

What were the reasons for deciding to accept them?

About 20 years ago, I learned that another company in the same industry, which was also suffering from a labor shortage, had started hiring Chinese workers, and I became interested in the system. At the time, the workload and the number of employees did not match, and we were extremely busy, so we decided to hire Chinese workers as well, with the sole aim of reducing the burden on our employees.

What were the benefits of accepting it?

Teaching others brings many new insights. Because foreigners work so diligently, they sometimes offer opinions on how work is done, which leads to a review of work methods that had become "normal." As a result, it helps to improve the skills of the entire company.

What measures or precautions do you take after accepting them?

Before accepting the students, I bought an electronic dictionary because I anticipated language difficulties. However, it wasn't very helpful. So, I became acquainted with a Chinese exchange student who was at Gifu University at the time, and asked him to translate the names of tools and equipment for me. I then created a file with photos of those translations. After that, the first group of students I accepted became role models and taught their juniors, which made training much easier.

Please send a message to companies planning to implement this system.

In recent years, more and more companies have started accepting new hires. If you are hesitant, why not talk to a competitor that has already started accepting new hires? Also, as preparation before accepting new hires, it would be a good idea to look at Safety and Health Education manual and skills training supplementary materials provided by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, etc. The environment is much better now than when our company started accepting new hires, so we recommend that you make use of them.

Voices from those working on-site

We spoke with three individuals holding Specified Skilled Worker (ⅱ): WENG FEI, Kak, and Bu, about their work and life in Japan, as well as their future goals.

WENG FEI
My dream is to live in Japan with my family. But first and foremost, my child's entrance exams are my top priority!

In April 2022, WENG FEI became the first person in Japan to obtain Specified Skilled Worker (ⅱ) visa. His current goal is to live in Japan with his family. However, his son is currently in the midst of high school entrance exams. "It's a crucial time, so getting into school is the top priority." When asked if he wants his son to attend a Japanese school, he said, "There are difficult issues such as transferring schools and enrollment procedures. I want to look into it," and the expression on his face was that of a father thinking of his son.

I can enjoy my work because I have supportive Japanese senior colleagues!

HAO, who says he loves his job of pumping ready-Concrete pressure feeding, came to Japan about 10 years ago to learn the technology. He is now a father of two and is working hard to bring his family over after obtaining Specified Skilled Worker (ii) visa. He has a strong sense of loyalty to his company and said with a smile, "When I'm given a difficult task, my Japanese senior colleagues always take the lead and help me out. That's why I enjoy my work."

My greatest pleasure is sharing meals with Japanese and Indonesian people!

WU says she gets along well with everyone at work, regardless of nationality, and that her greatest pleasure is the barbecue with her colleagues held on weekends. "We eat different foods depending on our culture and religion, but it's still delicious when we eat together." She is fluent in Japanese and passed her semi-medium-sized vehicle license test on her first try. "I even got 96 points on the written test!" She is currently studying hard to obtain her large vehicle license.
