YOSHIMI CORPORATION
A formwork company has chosen to "coexist" with stray cats.
While interviewing Host Companies across Japan, I often come across interesting and unique initiatives they undertake outside of regular working hours. These range from unique to groundbreaking, and vary greatly from company to company. Why not take a look and see what they're all about?

"Cute" alone wasn't enough to protect it.
Local cats had taken up residence on the premises of YOSHIMI CORPORATION in Chiba Prefecture. However, there was a risk of them defecating and urinating near the plywood used for formwork, which was a problem the company could not ignore. The company president consulted with an animal welfare organization, and together with volunteers introduced to him, they undertook spaying and neutering (TNR *) surgeries. This marked the beginning of a cat rescue activity aimed at coexisting with local cats.
*This refers to the activity of trapping stray cats, having them spayed or neutered, and returning them to their original location.
Instead of "driving them out," we should "coexist."
A fundamental principle of cat rescue is to return cats that have undergone surgery to where they came from. Sick cats are kept indoors, while healthy cats are monitored in sheds built on the premises. The sheds are designed so that cats can come and go freely. Some cats stay for a while if they find it comfortable, before moving on to another location. "Once we decide to take care of them, we will see it through to the end"—with this sentiment from the company president, foreign employees also help assemble the sheds and cat towers, and occasionally pet the cats, supporting coexistence with local cats.
