I came to Japan to stabilize my family's life.
After getting married and having a child, I started thinking about working in Japan. When I asked a friend who knows a lot about Japan, "What kind of country is Japan?", they told me that "the standard of living is higher than in China." So, I decided to work in Japan to make my life more stable.
The reason I chose to work in Concrete pressure feeding was "because it seemed interesting."
The Japanese I had learned for three months was completely useless.
For about a month, I was doing cleaning and tidying up, and after that, my work mainly consisted of manual labor such as washing the hoses on the pump trucks and attaching joints. At the time, the biggest challenge for me was the Japanese language. I had studied Japanese for about three months at the sending organization in China, but I was shocked to find that it was completely useless.
I'll discuss the work details with the site supervisor and then plan the tasks myself.
I gradually got used to the work and was able to handle tasks on large construction sites such as apartment buildings. As for my Japanese, which had been a challenge, I started to talk to my Japanese senior colleagues, and I gradually began to understand the work content along with the language. By my third year, my Japanese level had improved so much that I was able to talk to the site supervisor and think for myself while working.
I passed the Level 3 Concrete pressure feeding Certificed Skilled Worker exam and became a concrete pump truck operator.
I want to expand my field of activity as a craftsman!
I took The Specified Skills (i) Evaluation Exam for Construction Industry for "Concrete pressure feeding" in the Construction Sector. I passed and obtained Specified Skilled Worker (i) residence status.
In 2021, I was recognized as Recognition of Excellent Foreign Construction Workers. I was truly happy to be recognized for my current job, which I love!
Being appointed as a foreman increased my credibility with other companies and site supervisors.
When I first started working in Japan, I'm sure people around me were worried about whether I could really do the job, given that I was a foreigner. But after I was promoted to foreman, I began to feel the trust of other tradespeople on site and the site supervisor. It was also around this time that I had more opportunities to teach younger Chinese colleagues and Indonesian workers whom the company had recently started to accept. Thanks to these experiences, I learned about the difficulties of teaching and the importance of communication.
First in the nation to receive Specified Skilled Worker (ii)
In April 2022, I became the first person in Japan to obtain the "Specified Skilled Worker (ii)" residence status. My current goal is to buy a detached house and live in Japan with my wife and children!
A message from senior employee Kitagawa
When WENG FEI first came to Japan, he almost always went to work sites with me. He learned the job very quickly, and I was always impressed by how fast he picked things up. We also spent a lot of time together outside of work, and he's really good at billiards. He seemed to have honed his skills quite a bit in China, and I was always beaten. Looking back now, I think those times helped to build a good working relationship and trust between us.
