My first encounter with construction was during a part-time job in high school.

I have experience in construction work, including in Vietnam. During summer vacations in high school, I worked part-time doing Plastering and other similar jobs. My experience on-site sparked my interest in the construction industry. After graduating from high school, I completed two years of mandatory military service.

By chance, I passed the interview at the same time as my childhood friend, and although I was anxious, I felt reassured as I departed for Japan.

We started with cleaning and painting the handrails.

The first tasks I was assigned after joining the company were cleaning the work site and painting the handrails. I learned how to paint from my seniors and carefully painted them myself using a mini roller. It was my first time doing this kind of work, but I did my best despite not knowing much, and I was very happy when I was praised by my seniors for the clean finish.

FUTURE

From jobs where you simply wait for instructions to jobs where you make your own decisions.

In my first year, I mainly did relatively simple tasks such as painting handrails, but in my second year, I was entrusted with making decisions like "paint this area" and "don't paint this area," and I also gained experience painting roofs. I became able to assess the situation and act on my own without needing explanations, and I began to feel the trust of my seniors and foremen.

I developed the ability to read blueprints and plan things out on my own.

My third year was when I became able to think for myself about paint color mixing and painting procedures, which greatly expanded the scope of my work. Around this time, I also became able to read site blueprints and work with a clear image of the finished product in mind. As I gradually developed a craftsman's perspective, I was entrusted with more and more work, which boosted my confidence.

During my third year Technical Intern Training, I learned that due to a legal revision, painters could also become Specified Skilled Worker (i), and I immediately decided to switch.

FUTURE

FUTURE

Get a driver's license and go to the site yourself.

After completing my three-year Technical Intern Training, I returned to Vietnam temporarily to have my driver's license reissued, and then took the exam to convert my license to a foreign license upon returning to Japan. With the license in place, I was able to drive the company car to job sites more often, and the range of responsibilities I was entrusted with expanded even further.

Independent learning and family support are the driving forces behind it.

With an eye on the future, I started studying to transition to Specified Skilled Worker (ii) I gathered information from the JAC website and other sources, and diligently studied for more than an hour each day after work and on weekends. I passed the exam on my third attempt. I became Specified Skilled Worker (ii) in 2024.

I got married this year (2025), so I've moved out of the company dormitory and am now living with my wife in a company apartment. The reason I was able to keep trying and not give up in Japan this far is because of her encouragement. Now it's my turn to support my wife, and I want to work even harder in Japan.

A message from junior employee Taniguchi

LUAN and I joined the company six months apart. She's a senior colleague with whom I learned on the job, and a valued friend with whom I also keep in touch outside of work. When she first joined, she was quiet and seemed unsure of what to say, but when it came to work, she was incredibly skilled and stood out among the younger employees. Even now, she's more active than anyone else in the company, which I think is truly amazing.
