My reason for going to Japan was news and anime.

I was born and raised in Ha Tinh province in central Vietnam. I became interested in Japan through news and anime, and I always wanted to visit someday, so when the opportunity actually came, I decided immediately.

I was surprised by the earnestness of the Japanese people I met in Vietnam.

While attending university in Vietnam, I had a part-time job in the construction industry. There were foreigners working on the site, including Japanese and Koreans, but what surprised me was the diligence of the Japanese. They worked harder than anyone else, were always punctual, and were quite impressive. When I actually came to Japan, I was deeply moved to see that this culture was deeply rooted there.

Once it was decided that she would come to Japan, she apparently researched construction work through books and YouTube to prepare herself.

Thanks to my seniors who answered all my questions: 1

For the first month, I spent time at the company's materials storage area, intensively learning the terminology and names of tools used in the job. Safety is paramount in the construction industry, so the first thing we did was acquire knowledge about hazard prediction in order to eliminate accidents. When I actually went out to the construction site, I remember realizing that there were many more things to be careful about than I had expected, and I keenly felt the importance of protecting myself.

Thanks to my seniors who answered all my questions: 2

What really supported me was the advice from my seniors. They would say things like, "This is a better way to do it," or "Let's try it together," on-site, which was very encouraging. Also, I'm the type of person who wants to resolve things as soon as they come to mind, so I would ask my seniors lots of questions after work, and I was grateful that they answered them in an easy-to-understand way.

I purchased textbooks and studied on my own to obtain the N2 certification.

While working, I also dedicated myself to learning Japanese. I passed the N3 exam in my second year and the N2 exam in my third year. I mostly studied on my own, using commercially available textbooks for grammar and other topics. I studied a little bit each day, dedicating the time between finishing work and going to bed to studying. As for qualifications I needed on the job, I gradually acquired them as I became more familiar with the work, such as rigging, aerial work platform operation, and formwork support work.

The first project where I was entrusted with the task of taking measurements from blueprints was the training building at the fire station. I was very nervous, but because I had been watching my seniors work on a regular basis, I managed to complete it, and now it has given me a lot of confidence.

I decided to work hard in Japan after getting married to my wife.

I transitioned to Specified Skilled Worker (ii) in 2023. Actually, when I first came to Japan, I thought I would eventually return to my home country, but my mind changed when I got married. My wife said she wanted to stay in Japan for a long time, so we talked it over and decided to continue working hard in this country.

A message from senior employee Kanda

When TRIEU first arrived in Japan, I often visited his dorm room because I was worried he might be anxious about living in a foreign country. On days when I had cautioned him at work, I would bring him a can of beer and explain why I had cautioned him. He would listen carefully and be careful not to make the same mistake again from the next day onward. He would also come to my room with blueprints in hand and ask me to come and explain things to him because there were parts he didn't understand, which shows he is a truly hardworking person.
